Well, it’s official… peel season has arrived.
How do I know?
Is it because the nights are drawing in, the leaves are slowly falling from the trees, being blown across the road, while the beautiful greens of summer are gently shifting into the browns and oranges of autumn?
No. Absolutely not.
I know peel season has arrived because, despite the fact that it is only September, I have been into Home Bargains to pick up my monthly haul of essential household cleaning products, along with whatever other bits of tat and stationery I have decided I desperately need that particular day, only to discover aisle upon aisle of Christmas items.
And just to clarify, I did say Christmas items.
There were, obviously, the obligatory couple of aisles of Halloween paraphernalia, including some wildly inappropriate masks for very small children that look like they belong in an 18-rated Stephen King film.
Then there are the mountains of sweet treats designed for us to launch at the children when they come knocking on our doors.
Full disclosure: I will also be sending my children out begging for sweets from other people.
In fact, I will be accompanying them, as they are only one and five. So technically, I’m just providing supervision while they collect my supply of chocolate.
Anyway, now that I have explained how I know autumn has arrived, let’s talk about something far more exciting…
PEELS.
Introducing BioRePeelCl3®
One of the treatments I am particularly excited to offer in my clinic this autumn is BioRePeelCl3®, which can also be used alongside microneedling for appropriate clients as part of a personalised treatment plan.
BioRePeelCl3® is a chemical peel designed to refresh and rejuvenate the appearance of the skin, helping to address concerns such as dullness, uneven-looking skin tone, congestion and texture.
When people hear the words chemical peel, they can sometimes immediately imagine dramatic peeling, redness and several days of hiding from everyone they know.
And while some chemical peels can certainly involve significant peeling and downtime, BioRePeelCl3® takes a different approach.
It focuses on refreshing the skin and supporting overall skin quality, making it an appealing option for clients who want their complexion to look brighter, smoother and healthier without necessarily wanting significant visible downtime.
Why combine BioRePeelCl3® with microneedling?
This is where things get particularly interesting.
BioRePeelCl3® and microneedling work in different ways, so when used appropriately, they can complement one another beautifully.
The peel focuses more on the surface of the skin, while microneedling works deeper to stimulate the skin’s natural repair response.
BioRePeelCl3® can help with that immediate “my skin just looks better” feeling — improving the appearance of dullness, roughness, congestion and uneven tone.
Microneedling, meanwhile, creates controlled micro-injuries within the skin, stimulating the body's natural healing processes and supporting longer-term improvements in skin texture and quality.
So, put very simply:
Peel for the glow.
Microneedling for skin renewal.
And that combination can be particularly appealing if your goal isn't to change the shape of your face or add volume, but simply to improve the quality of your skin.
Sometimes you just want better skin
One of the things I love about medical aesthetics is that treatments don't always need to be about changing the way you look.
There is a huge part of aesthetics that is simply about skin quality.
Sometimes you don't want to look different.
You just want your skin to look:
- Smoother.
- Fresher.
- Brighter.
- Clearer.
- Healthier.
And, quite frankly, less like you've spent the last six months looking after small children and surviving on coffee.
BioRePeelCl3® and microneedling can be considered for a range of concerns, including:
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Uneven-looking skin tone
- Rough or uneven texture
- Congestion
- The appearance of pores
- Fine lines
- Certain post-acne texture concerns, where appropriate
The aim isn't to make you look like somebody else.
It is to help you get the best possible version of your own skin.
Why I prefer a course approach
Neither treatment is something I would generally recommend approaching with the expectation of one treatment producing a dramatic transformation overnight.
Skin takes time.
There is no magic button that gives you perfect skin by Tuesday.
A carefully planned course allows treatments to be tailored to your individual concerns, with improvements building gradually over time.
Your treatment plan may involve combining treatments or spacing them apart depending on your skin, your goals and how your skin responds.
This is why I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
Your skin is individual to you, and your treatment plan should be too.
Is this treatment suitable for everyone?
No.
And I think it is really important to say that.
Just because a treatment is available doesn't mean it is automatically the right treatment for you.
Combining resurfacing treatments can increase the potential for irritation, particularly in people with very sensitive or reactive skin, a compromised skin barrier or skin that is prone to pigmentation following inflammation.
Active inflammation or infection would also need to be considered before treatment.
This is why consultation and assessment are such an important part of what I do.
Before recommending a treatment, I want to understand your skin, your medical history, your concerns and, importantly, what you are actually hoping to achieve.
Sometimes that means BioRePeelCl3® and microneedling will be a great combination.
Sometimes I may recommend doing them separately.
And sometimes I may recommend something completely different.
That isn't me trying to sell you a treatment. That's me doing my job properly and respecting your individual needs.
So, is it time to think about your autumn skin?
If your skin is feeling a little dull after the summer, your complexion isn't looking quite as fresh as you'd like, or you're simply ready to start working on your skin quality before the festive season arrives, autumn can be a great time to start thinking about a personalised treatment plan.
And yes, I realise that mentioning the festive season in September is slightly ironic given my earlier rant about Home Bargains.
But apparently, we're now living in a world where Christmas decorations appear in shops before we've processed the fact that summer is over.
So while Home Bargains is preparing us for Christmas…
I’ll be preparing your skin for autumn. 🍂
